And the reason why is that I'm of Celtic design, and the Celts are known as a dogged people. DOGGED's logo is that of a Celtic Irish Wolfhound, and DOGGED's colors are that of the Irish flag.
Great grandma hailed from Cappoquin, a tiny two-pub village in Ireland, county Waterford. She emigrated by boat to New York in the 1800's with nothing, then traveled by wagon across the country to Nevada to become a rancher's wife. As the priest in Cappoquin noted, it must have been a stark change coming from the Emerald Isle to the deserts of Nevada, and yet she persisted.
My great grandfather, Ed O'Leary, after serving as infantry in WWI, opened an illegal speakeasy with his brothers in Leadville, CO named the Yampa Men's Club. After serving in WW1, he moved to southern California, dealt twenty-one in the backs of taxi cabs, and then moved to Reno, Nevada where he worked as a dealer in the Bank Club. If you google Bank Club Reno, there are still images of him dealing displayed (from old Bank Club postcards). You may notice a shillelagh in some of doggedwear's cap photos: that's great grandpa's shillelagh (and no, it's not for sale).
My step father hails directly from County Meath, Ireland, and if there is a single person who embodies the spirit of DOGGED, it is he. At age 19, he left his family behind, and with $50 in his pocket, emigrated to Canada, worked at Sears, then worked for many years in the Arctic DEW line (distant early warning line), a frozen bunker of the cold war's fear of nuclear missiles flying across the pole. After much (obvious) adventure, he moved to Reno, worked as a craps dealer to put himself through university, became a CPA, then got a law degree and practiced as an attorney, often serving the downtrodden and underrepresented. He is the embodiment of dogged determination.
You don't have to be Celtic or Irish or fond of dogs to be in the DOGGED clann. The point is the Celtic story and that of our canine pals is marked by stubborn determination. Just like you.
Wearing DOGGED's Boston scally and Irish scally caps speaks to one of your core traits: stubborn determination. Whether it's a cap, shirt, or decal on your vehicle, and no matter your walk of life, you tell the world that nothing will stop you. Mark your stubborn determination with DOGGED style.
DOGGED describes your nature. The term "dogged" derives from the nature of our canine pals. In appreciation, DOGGED donates $1 from the sale of every cap or shirt to worthy nonprofit canine rescue organizations.
The term "dogged" describes you - someone marked by stubborn determination. And that word derives from the nature of "man's best friend," our canine pals. We support our canine friends by contributing $1 from the sale of every cap or shirt to a worthy canine rescue organization. Those dollars add up. So your support of DOGGED supports canines as well, and if you'd like to support directly, here are some links to some of the national canine rescue groups we support in addition to local rescues here.
